Crandall makes huge new investment in athletics

Moncton – The Crandall Chargers will have the first teams in the league with head coaches serving in full-time roles.

Crandall University's Athletics department has grown in recent years and is now looking to take bold steps to give student athletes the best possible opportunity to succeed, both in academics and in their chosen sport(s).

The Chargers proudly participate in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) in Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, and Volleyball, as well as in the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) in Boxing. A total of 130 student athletes participated in our programs in 2024-2025 from Canada and around the world.

Crandall student athletes have been consistently improving in overall academic success in recent years, with 35 recipients of the National Scholar Award and six Academic All-Canadians named this year.

Athletically, these student athletes push hard to be the best they can be and have great aspirations for success on the court/field/trail/ring. With that in mind, Crandall has made the decision to elevate the investment the University's athletic programs in order to reach the competitive level desired by the student athletes.

As a result, Crandall will commit more time and resources to athletic programs for the coming year, including the appointment of full-time employees to serve as head coaches for Women's and Men's Soccer, Women's Basketball, and Women's Volleyball.

"We appreciate the dedication of full-time staff as well as part-time coaches and assistant coaches who all go above and beyond in the recruitment and training of our student athletes," said Jim Druart, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "The investment into more full-time staff to serve our athletes acknowledges the increased time required to accomplish the goals we have laid out: recruitment, scheduling, running practices and sports camps, travel, and even securing athletic sponsorships, all with the goal to better serve our student athletes and provide more resources to help them rise to the next level of success with their teams."

"One of the most significant benefits of athletics is the way sport can bring the whole community together; from the athletes who compete to the fans in the stands, it's wonderful to see people join together and cheer on our teams," said Dale Stairs, Vice President for Student Life and Transformation. "Chargers Athletics has made great leaps forward in these last few years, and we see this investment as the next step in ensuring that our programs continue to provide a transformational experience for our student athletes. We believe this will have a positive impact on their development, on our success in competition, and ultimately, on the level of Chargers spirit throughout the entire community."
