Coach Thorpe began his coaching career in 2002 as the head coach of the senior girls’ basketball team at Eden High School in St. Catharines, Ontario. During his time at Eden, he coached both boys’ and girls’ teams at the senior and junior levels, compiling a record of 441 wins and 239 losses. His most successful season came in 2024, when his senior boys’ team finished fourth in the province at the AAA OFSAA championships.
While coaching at Eden, Thorpe also served as a head coach with the Niagara Rangers travel program in the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA), coaching teams from U11 to U19. His notable OBA achievements include a U17 Division 1 silver medal, U19 Division 1 bronze, U16 Division 2 gold, and U19 Division 2 gold.
In addition, Thorpe was the Director of the Niagara Rangers Basketball Camp, a coach at Camp Olympia, and a guest coach for Niagara’s Ontario Summer Games team in 2014 and 2015, as well as for various other travel, elementary, and high school teams.
Thorpe expanded his experience into university coaching as the Lead Assistant for the Redeemer University men’s team during the 2023–24 season, followed by a role as Special Advisor to the head coach in 2024–25.
Jonathon feels very blessed to be part of the Crandall community and is excited to begin this new coaching chapter, with a focus on fostering a culture of excellence in women’s basketball at Crandall.
