
Mounties Drop Home Opener to Chargers
The Mount Allison Mounties men's basketball team got their first chance to play in front of their home supporters on Sunday afternoon as they welcomed local rivals Crandall to Sackville for their home opener.
Crandall would get off to a hot start in the first quarter thanks to Luca Del Bosco with 9 points on 4/5 from the field. Rashawn Ferguson would get the Mounties going with 5 of his own, but the home side trailed 20-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The Chargers' offensive output continued to be steady and balanced in the second quarter with seven players finding the scoresheet in the frame. Jonas Munroe would begin to get going for the Mounties, but the visitors would go into halftime ahead by a score of 40-25.
Mount Allison would come roaring out of the locker room in the second half thanks to Jonas Munroe who had 17 in the frame and the Mounties, who trailed by 17 early in the quarter, brought it all the way back to a one-point game. Crandall's bench would provide a spark late in the quarter to give the visitors a cushion heading to the fourth, but the Mounties would enter the final quarter down by just 5, 59-54.
The fourth quarter would go back and forth particularly between Jonas Munroe and Marc Hofer, who had 10 and 9 respectively for their squads down the stretch. The Mounties were unable to ever regain the lead however and the visiting Chargers picked up their second win of the season by a score of 84-76. Jonas Munroe led all scorers with 33 points while Marc Hofer led Crandall with 15.
Crandall (2-1) take on the UKC Blue Devils in their next contest, Sunday November 10th on the road in Halifax with tip-off set for 3:00pm. Mount Allison (0-3) return to action Saturday, November 9th at home against UKC with tip-off set for 4:00pm.
