
Mounties Victorious over Chargers in Home Opener
The Mount Allison Mounties women's basketball team got their first chance to play in front of their home supporters on Sunday afternoon as they welcomed local rivals Crandall to Sackville for their home opener.
The Mounties would get off to a hot start in this one leading 19-6 at the end of the first quarter thanks to strong defence and a balanced offensive attack that saw eight different Mount Allison players on the scoresheet in the first 10 minutes.
Mount Allison would continue to add to their lead in the second quarter from strong interior offense from Amelia Mitchell and Sadie Bowen, each with 6 in the frame. Mackenzi Chapman would lead the way in the quarter for Crandall with 8 including points to close the quarter on a run for the Chargers, the score at halftime being 41-16 in favour of the Mounties however.
Crandall came out in quarter 3 with increased energy from the break and were continued to be propelled offensively by Mackenzi Chapman. Mount Allison would turn the ball over eight times in the quarter as the visitors won the quarter by 4. The Mounties would lead at the end of 3, 52-31.
Amelia Mitchell would lead the way for the Mounties in the fourth quarter with 6 points as the home side came out in the fourth quarter more like the way they did in the first and second quarters and were able to pull away from the Chargers with the final score being 73-39 in favour of Mount Allison.
Mount Allison (3-0) return to action Saturday, November 9th at home against UKC with tip-off set for 2:00pm. Crandall (0-3) also take on the UKC Blue Devils in their next contest, Sunday November 10th on the road in Halifax with tip-off set for 1:00pm.
