Chargers Prevail Despite Second-Half Comeback from Mounties
The Mount Allison Mounties men's basketball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon for their second game in as many days with the Crandall Chargers.
Brennan Devereux and Rashawn Ferguson made big shots in the first quarter while Jack Way had a 6-point impact for Crandall off the bench as the teams played to a 15-15 tie at the end of the first.
Crandall's offence would pick up in the second quarter thanks to 8 points from Ethan Culberson. Kaden Augustin would provide 5 in the frame for the Mounties but it was the visitors that would take a 38-30 lead into halftime.
Mount Allison's defense would force numerous Crandall turnovers in the third, and Jonas Munroe and Ryan Norris would help convert that into points with 13 of their team's 19 in the quarter between them. Ryan Campbell had 7 big points for Crandall to help them retain the lead, but the margin tightened to 51-49 after 3.
Despite a valiant effort in the fourth from the Mounties led by Rashawn Ferguson with 6 points, a strong fourth quarter from Jayden Lucas off the bench for the Chargers with 11 points in the frame would help push the visitors over the edge by a score of 74-67.
Crandall (5-2) finish their semester with a matchup on the road against UNB Saint John on Saturday, November 30th with tip-off set for 4:00pm. Mount Allison (1-7) play their final game of the term on Sunday, December 1st at home against Mount Saint Vincent with tip-off set for 3:00pm.
