Crandall University Chargers Boxing has been identified by USports Canada to field a team of boxers to represent Canada at the 2022 FISU World Cup Combat Sports scheduled for September 23-30, 2022 in Samsun, Turkey.

Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) is the key driver to expand the role and reach of university sport around the world. In addition to its bi-annual Summer and Winter University Games, FISU also coordinates sport-specific competitions for sports that are best served outside of the Summer and Winter games. Since 1963, these alternate championship seasons have taken place during even-numbered years, thus filling the gap in the international university sports calendar between two World University Games seasons.

In addition to the combat sport of boxing, the 2022 FISU World Cup Combat Sports will also feature the sports of Karate, Muaythai, SAMBO, Wrestling and Wushu.

"We are excited to be taking a team to the FISU World Cup Combat Sports. We are the first Canadian University ever to participate in this event. We have some talented boxers who should do very well," Jon Ohlhauser, Head Coach, Crandall University Chargers Boxing. The Charger's Boxing Team will be aided by Assistant Coach, Socrates Celestial, who coaches with Canada's National Amateur Boxing Team.

U-Sports Canada is the official University Sport agency in Canada that provides for the administration of competitive sports conducted between member institutions. It also serves as a Member Association for FISU and facilitates the connection of specific university sports to FISU competitions.
