Andrew Macklin to represent Crandall at NCBA National Championships

Updated regulations for the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) allow for non-US member institutions to compete in the National Championships, and Crandall will be the first such institution.

Prior to this year, Crandall boxers were welcomed to compete in the Association's "regular season" but were not permitted to compete for a national title. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the NCBA Executive and the assistance of the Crandall boxing coaches, the way was cleared with USA Boxing to allow Crandall boxers to compete in the national tournament held in Indiana.

"This has been our goal from the beginning of our participation with the other NCBA schools," said Jon Ohlhauser, Head Coach of the Crandall Chargers Boxing team. "It is an exciting honour to be the first Canadian university to be allowed to compete in the national championship."

In order to qualify for the national tournament, boxers must finish in first or second place at one of 3 regional tournaments. Crandall participated in the East Regional Tournament earlier in March alongside West Point, Penn State, Trinity College, University of Connecticut, University of Massachusetts, US Coast Guard, Norwich University and the University of Delaware.

Crandall's heavyweight – Andrew "Drew" Macklin – earned a first-place finish in the East Regional Tournament, which qualified him for the national championship. "I am so excited to be the first Charger to challenge for a USA Collegiate Boxing Championship," said Andrew Macklin. "This will be something I will remember for the rest of my life."

The NCBA tournament starts on April 10, 2025 and finishes on April 12, and takes place in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The tournament action can be followed on the NCBA's Facebook page.
