Chargers Run Away at Second Meet of the Year

Brookvale, PE - The Crandall Chargers men's and women's cross country teams were back in action on Saturday, racing the second meet of the regular, hosted by Holland College at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park. The teams continued their winning ways, capturing individual podium positions and team wins on both sides.

In the women's 6K race, Michaela Allen, Clareta Livingstone, and Mary Fillmore formed a pack early on and traded positioning throughout the race. Allen would place 2nd in 25:48 – missing the winning time by just 5 seconds – Livingstone 3rd in 25:58, and Fillmore 4th in 26:31. Rylee Stanford rounded-out the team scoring with a 6th place finish and a time of 28:07, while Laura Sanchez Fonseca followed closely behind, placing 7th in 28:16. Lydia Bodechon crossed the line 13th in 31:59.

The Chargers led the women's team standings with 15 points, followed by the Mount Allison Mounties with 35, and the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics with 40.

In the men's 8K race, Luke Purdy issued a commanding victory, crossing the line with a time of 29:07, an astonishing 2 minutes and 43 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, teammate Jackson Culberson, who placed 2nd in 31:50. Luc Blanchette held strong throughout the course's challenging hills, placing 4th in 34:20, while Charles Taylor rounded-out the team scoring with a 9th place finish, running a time of 37:38. Justin Reimer crossed the line 22nd with a time of 42:03.

The Chargers led the men's team standings with 16 points, followed by the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams with 41, and the Mount Allison Mounties with 48.

"Today's course was a challenging one, but we came out with some good results and some valuable experience," said Head Coach Brandon LeBlanc. "The athletes showed a lot of perseverance and determination in working through the tough terrain, which included a few rough patches and a long and steady uphill."

A few Chargers will take on the AUS and RSEQ conferences at next weekend's Interlock meet, hosted by the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, while most athletes will take the weekend to rest and recover. The full teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 14th, racing the final meet of the regular season, hosted by Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB.
