Hurricanes Down Chargers 90-74 in Semi-finals

FREDERICTON, NB - The Crandall Chargers Men's Basketball team had their season come to an end during the semi-finals of the ACAA Championship after falling to second-seeded Holland College 74-90.

Holland proved to be Crandall's achilles heel this season, as the lone team the Chargers failed to record a win against during the regular season. The matchup between the two teams would pit the Hurricanes' top-rated offense against the Chargers top-rated defense.

The opening minutes saw Holland jump out to a 5-point lead but the Chargers would answer right back with a 9-point run of their own. At the end of the first Crandall was within a single point but the Hurricanes would double the Chargers scoring in the second quarter 22 to 11, a deficit that could not be recovered.

In his last performance as a Crandall Charger, Brett Curtis (Harvey, NB) put up 15 points, scoring from beyond the arc 5 times including a pair back-to-back to open the second half.

James French (Moncton, NB) will end his 5 years of eligibility with a performance that earned him the Player-of-the-Game award. Going 10/18 from the field with a trio of 3's, 10 rebounds, and a turn away block.

Tyray Cooper (Baltimore, MD) had an extended role as the sixth man coming off the bench to square off against his former teammates. Going 5 of 7 and muscling his way through the defense, Cooper would account for 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Holland had a game plan to limit Chargers leader Devon Glenn (Woodstock, VA) and thePlayer of the Game vs UKC, Gabriel Cormier (Moncton, NB) and not let them take over the game, as both have proven capable oof all season long. With Glenn not getting any clean looks, he was forced to the foul line 7 times, making 5 and accounting for 13 total points.

With the 2022-23 season now in the books for the Chargers, Head Coach, Todd McKillop is expected to return a majority of his players next year and will continue to develop and build for the future.
