Chargers Fall Short, Blue Devils Win 64-54

MONCTON, NB - The University of King's College (UKC) Blue Devils came into Moncton Saturday afternoon and walked away victorious, taking care of the Crandall Chargers 64-54.

 

Chargers and Blue Devils were back and forth in the game's opening frames, with the Chargers taking a single-point lead (16-15) after the first quarter before the two teams entered halftime tied at 35 a side.

 

UKC opted to play the ball around the perimeter, shooting 25.0% from beyond the arc led by Blue Devils points leader Norah Quinlan. 

 

The Blue Devils had significant contributions from the bench as Jenna Bain and Justine Brady each accounted for 9 points. Bain went 2-7 from the field while going a perfect 5 for 5 from the line. While Brady was 3-9 from the field including a pair of 3's.

 

Kylee Balser (Moncton, NB) led the way for the Chargers with 18 points going 4-13 from the floor. Balser earned her points the hard way driving the ball and getting the foul calls, taking her to the line to go 9-10. Even through the punishment and tough play, Balser stayed out on the court for 38 minutes.

 

Emily Briggs (Bath, NB) found her shot from beyond the arc early on, splashing down a trio of 3's in the opening half before being shut out for the remainder of the game.

 

Saturday marked the return of Alexa Rancourt (Charlottetown, PE) after she left last Saturday's matchup against UKC. in her return Rancourt led the Chargers with 16 total rebounds while also taking on 8 points.

 

Crandall Chargers slid into a 1-10 record on the season after the loss but will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as they host the UNBSJ Seawolves. The two teams last met up back in November with the Chargers having their lone win on the season, defeating the Seawolves 61-56.
