Hurricanes Shut Out Chargers in 2-0 Victory

SACKVILLE, NB - Marking the first meeting of the Holland Hurricanes and the Crandall Chargers this season the Hurricanes pulled out a 2-0 victory on Thursday evening.

The match was originally scheduled for Sept. 24 but was forced to reschedule due to Hurricane Fiona. Crandall hosted the match at the neutral site of Mount Allison Alumni Field in Sackville, NB.

As both teams were lining up to take the field and the sun setting the stadium had a power outage and it looked as if the game would once again need to be rescheduled. The play would start as regular even though it was getting dark fast. Around the 27-minute mark, the officials stopped play to discuss a plan of action though just as play was set to resume the power returned and it was back to soccer as usual.

The Chargers came out of the gates with energy putting together multiple plays to the net and testing the Hurricane's Goal Keeper early.

Opening the scoring in the 44th minute of play was Reese Kelly of Holland, slipping past the defence and burying it from 10 yards out.

Adding the insurance goal for the Hurricanes was Emily LePine muscling her way through the defence in the 81st minute.

The Chargers had a late push led by Amanda Piltzmaker. Rookie defender Julie Daigle had an opportunity to cut Holland's lead in half with a header coming off a corner kick but ultimately the touch was not there.

Crandall sits 3-6 on the season with a trio of games left to play the team will need to win out the remainder of their matches to make it into the playoffs.

Seniors Night marks the final home game for the Chargers as they will host STU Wednesday evening at CN Sports Park. In their previous meeting, STU shut out the Chargers 4-0.
