Blue Devils spoil Chargers Home Opener

MONCTON, NB - UKC Blue Devils played upset Crandall's home opener Saturday afternoon 65-63.

It was a back and forth battle between the two teams throughout the first half, with the Blue Devil's taking a 34-26 lead after 20 minutes.

The Chargers came to life in the second half scoring 37 points. Megan Gallie and Alexa Rancourt led the charge with 16 points each. Crandall played a physical game recording 24 points in the paint and coming down with a team total of 45 rebounds. While the Chargers had control of the inside, UKC dominated on the perimeter outscoring Crandall 8-0 in 3 point shots.

With two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter both teams were tied at 61 aside. UKC's Chloe Oxner drained a 3 pointer to send them up 64-61. A Layup by Samara Barr brought Crandall within one point. Barr then went completely vertical to get her hands on an errant pass but Crandall was unable to score on the turnover. With less than 5 seconds on the clock the Chargers were forced to foul UKC on the inbound. Emma Gargan made one of her free throws to secure the win.

Crandall will look to secure their first win of the season tomorrow afternoon as they host the MSVU Mystics, tip off is set for 1pm.
