UKC Spoils Chargers Home Opener 3-1

MONCTON, NB - The Crandall Chargers drop their home opener to the UKC Blue Devils 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22) on Sunday afternoon.

The Chargers came out swinging, taking control of the match early and locking down the first set with a dominant 25-17. Ultimately the Blue Devils would be too much for the Chargers as they made the adjustments to take the following three sets to secure the victory.

Janelle Blanchette and Hailey Legacy led the Chargers offense with eight kills each. Blanchette is looking to continue to be a league leader in kills this season and a .500 Kill Percent will make sure she continues to trend upward in the charts.

Legacy led the team with a total of 14.5 points with eight kills, five aces and three block assists.

First-year Setter for the Chargers, Zoe Fournier spread the ball around to all her hitters as the team had five players with five or more kills on the match. Fournier also showcased her ability to get involved with the ball on the opposing side of the net recording a trio of block assists.

Ella Walsh was all over the court for UKC, leading the team with 15.5 points coming off thirteen kills, a pair of aces and a block assist.

Claire Traynor and Nicole Ponto each recorded eleven digs for the Blue Devils with Halle Andreasen making her name known as well with ten digs of her own.

The Chargers will look to turn things around as they head out on the road next weekend to face off with the Dalhousie AC Rams on Saturday before heading to Pointe-de-l'Église, Nova Scotia to play the Université Sainte-Anne Dragons on Sunday.
